Last time we left off with Moe finishing up his first term at Sims University and getting ready to head back to Barnacle Bay. Alone. All by himself. Back to his lonely little fishing shanty. Without his girlfriend, Ashley. So, let’s get on with the story. He was picked up in front of the frat house by the Port-a-Party truck (yeah, me too, I always want to say Port-a-Potty) and mysteri-magically transported back to his island home. Equally mysteri-magical was that he arrived in front of the Port-a-Party warehouse. There was no Port-a-Party warehouse when he left. I was also rather surprised to discover that Mick’s Master Kareoke and the Flying V Coffeehouse had sprung up like mushrooms while we were gone. All three venues were placed without my knowledge (actually when asked if I wanted to place the Showtime venues I quite specifically said “No!”). They are a serious blight to the landscape. But whatever, there they are and since this is just a test game I’m not gonna get all fired up over it.
Last week (March 5, 2013) EA released the latest expansion pack for The Sims 3 franchise: University Life. A lot of fans have been waiting for this for years. Since I wasn’t hooked on The Sims 2, for me it was just another EP — but just a few days before the release I found a gift card that I didn’t know I had and… well… it was just meant to be. I pre-ordered so that I could have the Limited Edition version with its bonus party pack and patiently awaited its arrival. The day before the big release I received an email telling me that it had been shipped. So I waited some more. When my daughter checked the mail the day after the release, there it was! I think she was more excited than I was and she doesn’t even get to play. (I’m mean… I know… but it’s my computer and she’s not a teen yet. So there. 😛 )
I finally got all the stories and images moved to this site. And gave all y’all a break from the rapid succession of posts (ok, I was the one getting the break). Once again I can delve into current events in Sunset Valley. When last we left the good citizens of the valley, Vlad had been promoted to level 8 in his law enforcement career; Aisha was pregnant with Cory’s baby, but Cory had died by pie; several fires had broken out at the Kassanova house; and no sim-icides had been committed in a very long time.
Vlad has since made it level 9: Triple Agent, and is just one or two days from achieving his lifetime wish of becoming an International Super Spy. Yea Vlad! Aisha gave birth to a boy, who has been named. What his name is, I can’t tell you right now (I forgot). When I gave up control of the Kassanova household in favor of returning to Vlad and helping him complete his goal, SP took over and caused Ava to become engaged to Erica Sullivan. I decided to go along with it and moved Ava into Erica’s house — after all, she only moved into the Kassanova house because she was with Heather. The fact that she stayed after Heather’s death was very generous of Annie and Cory, but a new relationship outside the house meant it was as good a time as any for her to stop mooching off the Kassanovas. Shortly after the move Ava and Erica got married. It was just announced last night that Aisha has proposed to Erica’s sister, Janna. Lovely. Glad I made her look at least a little less pudding-like when I brought her back into the game. Continue reading

So the other day I downloaded custom career and school mods to use with the ship-shaped diner from Barnacle Bay. I installed it yesterday and was looking forward to watching my sims become pirates — but today I had to uninstall them. 😦 I think one or all of them were responsible for causing my control panel problems (it stopped changing to the profile of the active sim) — it didn’t occur to me last night, but every time it happened one of the teens was the active when it would stop switching profiles. This morning it would lock up as soon as I started clicking on the teens to prompt them to return to school. At one point I got it launched and didn’t send them back to school and the game went along great……. until I made Brandon the active again for some reason.
I thought I’d try disabling the mods to see if that would fix things, but instead it made it worse. The game would launch to the point of the green bar being almost full but the game tips kept cycling through quite rapidly suggesting that the game was still active but not doing anything. Twice that happened — even once after restarting the computer. I deleted the mods and stepped back a save and got things going again. But I lost about 12 sim-hours of activity — including Allie’s death.
