Retuner: Changing Length of Pregnancy

You can use Retuner to easily modify the length of pregnancies — a very useful concept if you like to play with longer-than-epic lifespans and don’t want your sims popping out kids every few days. My pregnancies are 21 days (504 hours), or roughly 9 months on my sim calendar. Mods are available that will change the length of pregnancy for you, but if you want a length that isn’t offered, here’s how you can make the necessary changes in Retuner.

In my game I use a 350 day lifespan based around 28-day years. This gives my sims approximately 6 years as Young Adults/Adults during which they can have kids. Sometimes I play with pregnancy allowed for teens as well, which adds another 2 years of fertility. I use StoryProgression to limit the number of children a sim can have and how long a female has to wait between pregnancies, so at the most a sim female would only be able to have 8 pregnancies.

The following are the main factors you’ll want to edit:

kHourToStartWalkingPregnant……………….. value=”496″
Which hour of pregnancy the Sim begins to use pregnant locomotion.
kHourToStartContractions………………………. value=”502″
less than kHoursOfPregnancy
Which hour of pregnancy the Sim begins to have contractions. Also when they can go to hospital.
kHourToStartPregnantMotives………………… value=”72″
less than kHoursOfPregnancy
Which hour of pregnancy the Sim begins having pregnant motives.
kHourToShowPregnantBuff…………………….. value=”72″
less than kHoursOfPregnancy
Which hour of pregnancy the Sim changes into maternity outfits and knows she’s pregnant.
kHoursOfPregnancy……………………………….. value=”504″
Which hour of pregnancy the Sim has the baby.
kHoursToShowFullyPregnant………………….. value=”336″
Number of hours to use when blending from no prego to fully prego visually.

You’ll see a lot of other pregnancy related settings, most of them you can leave alone. The chance of multiple births is also in this section, if you want to play with it — I recommend, however, that you bump those numbers up very slowly and keep the 0.0x format. I tried using a whole number (1) and it resulted in 100% multiple births.
